Where Can You Apply Deodorant?

Where can you apply deodorant? Surely it’s just the underarms - think again…

Whilst sweating isn’t a bad thing, it can cause some undesired effects, like sweat marks, B.O., and a general feeling of discomfort all over the body. Could putting deodorant on more areas of your body be the answer?

In this blog, our experts share the areas where you can apply deodorant to help you feel dry and fresh no matter what your day has in store.

Where can you apply deodorant?

If you are someone who sweats a lot, you may suffer from hyperhidrosis or you may be someone who experiences hot flushes because of the menopause - an excessive sweating condition. You may find that deodorant just doesn’t cut it and you're sweating all over your body every minute of the day, leaving you embarrassed and uncomfortable.

If this is the case, you may find antiperspirant works better than deodorant, giving you the boost of confidence you need to get through the day sweat free. But don’t fret, you can also use antiperspirant all over the body!

It doesn’t matter if you use roll on or spray deodorant, as both can be used on various areas of the body.

Let’s see where you can use deodorant!

Underarms

Of course, underarms are a natural place to start with applying deodorant as that’s its most common use!

It stops us from getting underarm sweat patches as the ingredients absorb any moisture and neutralise any unpleasant odours.

If you have sensitive skin, you may want to opt for a natural antiperspirant or deodorant as they use far gentler ingredients. Take Make Waves for example, our products use premium ingredients and are dermatologically tested to prevent sweating and ensure they can be used for those with eczema and other sensitive skin.

Plus, they are cruelty free and vegan friendly - what more could you ask for?

Feet

When we think of feet issues, we normally think of smelly feet, not sweaty feet! However, did you know that smelly feet are caused by a build-up of sweat? This is due to the 250,000 sweat glands found in the feet - more than other areas of the body.

Therefore, you could help your sweating (and smelling) feet by applying deodorant to this area of the body. We recommend a few swipes or sprays for the most effect.

Back

Especially in those hot, summer months, you may find that your T-shirt sticks to your back due to all the sweat - even if you've just walked to the office. Then, you may want to wear a jacket to hide this, causing you to sweat even more!

Applying deodorant to your back can help prevent this and save you some embarrassment and discomfort.

Chest

Is there anything worse than looking in the mirror to check your outfit and seeing sweat marks on your top?

In a similar manner to hair under your armpits, sweat can catch in chest hair causing moisture to build up and transfer onto your clothing.

Opting for breathable clothing fabrics can help to prevent this as it allows the moisture to pass through. Some examples include:

  • Linen
  • Cotton
  • Merino wool

Combine loose, breathable clothing with high-performing deodorant (just like Make Waves) in this area, and you will be sweat-free!

Groin

Applying deodorant to intimate areas like the groin should be taken with caution. This is because the fragrance in deodorant can cause irritation to such a sensitive area.

If you do struggle with sweating in this area, there are alternatives you can try instead, such as:

  • Anti-chafing shorts
  • Cotton underwear (as this is a more breathable material)
  • Unscented deodorant or antiperspirant
  • Talcum powder

Can you apply deodorant to your whole body at the same time?

You can apply deodorant all over your body at the same time, however, it’s not always advised.

This is because we need to sweat in order to help control our body temperature. Therefore, if you block all the sweat glands, you could overheat instead!

We understand that if you do have hyperhidrosis or are even sweating more than usual due to menopausal hormone changes, this can be disheartening.

If you find you sweat more in one place than the other - for example, feet more than armpits - you can apply deodorant there instead to at least allow your body to regulate the heat somehow.

Now you know where to put deodorant, let’s find the right one for your needs!
